Biosketch

Christine von Arnim is a professor of Geriatrics at the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany, and director of the Division of Geriatrics with focus on neuro-cardio-geriatrics. She received her M.D. from the University of Freiburg i.Br., Germany, and underwent postgraduate training in the labs of Matthias Riepe (Ulm University) and Bradley T. Hyman (MassGeneral Harvard Medical School), focusing on mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. From 2007 to 2012 she was member of the WIN-Kolleg (Junior Academy for Young Scholars and Scientists) of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences. She is an expert on the clinical diagnosis and biomarkers of dementia, and engages in clinical trials to prevent or treat cognitive impairment and delirium. Her lab investigates the pathophysiology of cognitive disorders and ageing in the context of heart and brain diseases combing work on human biomaterial with in vivo and cellular experimental models. Recently, her lab could demonstrate selective mitochondrial dysfunction in neurons overexpressing Alzheimer's Disease-related proteins. As a clinician scientist she also runs several investigator-initiated trials with non-drug interventions like cognitive training and physical exercise programs and diagnosis of delirium.
