Biosketch
Elisabeth Zeisberg is a professor and research group leader in the department of Cardiology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Göttingen. As a specialist for internal medicine and as a basic researcher, her goal is to use this expertise towards the benefit of patients with chronic heart disease. Focus of her work is to understand mechanisms of cardiac scarring (“fibrosis”) on a molecular level and, based on that, develop novel therapies and biomarkers for chronic heart disease. She is also a happy mother of four children.
I firmly believe that a balance of women and men in leadership positions on the one hand and a balance of a successful career and a happy family life on the other not only enrich our individual lives but also society as a whole. MedF3 offers an exchange among strong and successful women on the same campus but with different background, who oftentimes have gone through or go through similar challenges. I have thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from this exchange during the past ten years to achieve “my” balance, and I hope to give my time and experience also to the next generation as our exchange continues.
