Jana Zschüntzsch is a consultant for neurology at the Department of Neurology and spokesperson of the neuromuscular center at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), Germany. She received her M.D. from the University of Göttingen, Germany, and underwent postgraduate training in the lab of Clemens Neusch (Göttingen University) and Jens Schmidt (Göttingen University), focusing on neuron-glia-interaction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and pathomechanisms of inflammatory and inherited myopathies. She has more than 10 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders, and engages in clinical trials in this medical area. She was part of the German muscle society (DGM e.V.) meeting organizing committee in 2019. Her lab investigates the mechanisms of progressive muscle weakness, atrophy and pain in inflammatory and inherited myopathies by using human biomaterial for ex vivo, in vitro and 3D-tissue engineering experiments as well as rodent models in combination with functional testing and high-resolution imaging techniques. Recently, she could demonstrate the preclinical effectiveness of intravenous immunoglobulins in a Duchenne muscular dystrophy model.
