Biosketch

Claudia Trenkwalder, MD, is a clinical neurologist and sleep specialist and current Medical Director of the Paracelsus-Elena Klinik in Kassel, a specialised neurological hospital for Parkinsonism and Movement Disorders, and Foundation Chair at the Dept. of Neurosurgery, University Medical Center Goettingen (UMG). The principal fields of her expertise are prodromal features and biomarkers of synucleinopathies for clinical trials in Parkinson Disease, sleep studies with early detection of REM sleep behaviour disorder as prodromal PD. She has built the Paracelsus-Elena Klinik into an internationally renown center for PD research with many research collaborations and grants i.e. from the M.J.Fox foundation on RBD and biomarkers of PD. In addition she has a focus on restless legs syndrome with international leading expertise in the field with sleep studies, imaging, genetics and pivotal treatment trials. She has published 450 peer reviewed articles and is currently Past-President of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (IPMDS), and was President of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM) and Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology.
