Biosketch

As a basic scientist Katrin Streckfuß-Bömeke focusses on bench to bedside and back approaches in the field of cardiac diseases by working as senior scientific group leader (Translational stem cell research) in the Cardiology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) as well at the Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University in Würzburg. Her groups focus on the pathomechanisms during the development of cardiovascular diseases (such as Takotsubo Syndrome, dilated cardiomyopathy, non-compaction cardiomyopathy, anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy and tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy) by using translational cellular models as patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (and their applications in genome editing), human cardiac fibroblasts and human cardiac tissue from patients with heart disease. A direct comparison to the patient’s cardiac isolated cells/tissue allows for further interpretation. In addition, she analyzes clinical relevant drugs on patient-specific stem cell-derivatives. She is the speaker of the working group 13 (Myokardiale Funktion und Energetik) of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kardiologie (DGK) and a nucleus member of the DGK committee: Kommission für experimentelle Kardiologie.
