Prof. Heike Bickeböller – three-year presidential period for the International Genetic Epidemiology Society (IGES)

Prof. Heike Bickeböller is almost at the end of a three-year presidential period for the International Genetic Epidemiology Society (IGES) as president-elect in 2020, president in 2021, and past-president 2022. Heike Bickeböller organized the annual IGES meeting September 7-9th 2022 in Paris, the first hybrid meeting (in-presence and hybrid) of the society. In addition to the usual educational workshop and main meeting programme we had an honorary symposium for Francoise Clerget-Darpoux, a French founding member of the society. We received the participant evaluations on October 13, 2022. The programme was considered as excellent and many participants appreciated insights into the evolution of the field by such distinguished invited speakers as Mary Claire King, who established among others the whole field of hereditary cancer genetics and received the lifetime achievement award of the American Society of Human Genetics. As with the two mentioned invited speakers the IGES meeting displayed strong women as well as diversity with the invitees, e.g. Chuhsing Kate Hsiao from Taiwan’s biobank.
