Andrea Markus, PhD is a senior research scientist in the Translational Molecular Imaging group lead by Prof. Frauke Alves at the Max Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine/MPI for Multidisciplinary Sciences (MPI-NAT)-City campus, Göttingen. She received her degree in biology from the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz. Following her PhD in 1998 at the Helmholtz Center in Munich, she moved to Australia, where she worked for many years in molecular biology of cancer at the University of Sydney. In 2010 she returned to Germany and joined Prof. Alves’ group, where she investigates cellular processes in the progression and therapy of cancer and inflammatory diseases. Andrea Markus is particularly interested in the use of nanoparticles to help diagnose, track and monitor cancer cells as well as in the analysis of development and progression of fibrosis in preclinical disease models. She has high expertise in a number of imaging techniques, including high-resolution fluorescence and non-linear microscopy, optical in vivo imaging, and high-resolution x-ray-based imaging.
