Heisenberg-Professorin für ‚Zelluläres und molekulares Imaging neuroimmunologischer Prozesse“ am Institut für Neuroimmunologie und Multiple-Sklerose-Forschung der UMG
Dr. Francesca Odoardi, who took up her current position at the Georg-August University Göttingen as Heisenberg professor in 2020, has carried out her research in the Institute for Multiple Sclerosis Research and Neuroimmunology since 2008. Before undertaking a PhD she worked as a neurologist in the Catholic University of Rome (UCSC). Her main research interest is the mechanisms and factors that allow immune cells to enter the central nervous system, to communicate in this milieu and to influence brain tissue, particularly in relation to multiple sclerosis. She is an expert in applying and optimizing intravital imaging technologies such as two-photon laser scanning microscopy to analyze the autoimmune attack of the CNS in models of experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE), an animal model for multiple sclerosis.
I was very happy to hear about the Medf3 network. I feel it gives me an additional opportunity to support female scientists and medical professional women in general in reaching their career goals. I also look forward to the exchange with other women in leadership positions in the medical field.
